Machine Learning UB (MLUB) is a professional community of AI Nomads NGO. MLUB was established in May 2019 and has been operating since. We started as a small meet-up group consisted of professionals who work in artificial intelligence and data science field in Mongolia to share our knowledge and experience and learn from each other.
As the number of people who were interested in data science grew, the group’s activities started aiming public audience. One of our initiatives to promote data science in Mongolia was organizing “Data Nomads: AI & DS Conference”, the first online conference and data-competition organized in Mongolia during COVID-19 pandemic. The conference and the competition were well received. Over 11’000 people watched the live stream and it reached to over 30’000 people. The online Kaggle competition not only showed the importance and significance of open data but also showcased the skillset of Mongolian data scientists.
It is one of our goals to collaborate with international experts and organizations to promote AI & DS in Mongolia. Under the goal, we became an official organizer of Kaggle Days Meetup, an international meetup that is organized in 32 cities of 28 countries. Our first Kaggle Days Meetup Ulaanbaatar event was successfully organized in November 2020 along with a month-long computer vision data competition.
We became an official organizer of Kaggle Days Meetup in 2020, and an official ambassador of Deeplearning.AI’s Pie & AI event in 2021. We truly believe expanding our international collaboration creates opportunities for Mongolian data scientists to learn from the international experts and eventually become a bridge to showcase Mongolian talents to the world.
Mongolia is a fresh ground for data science and artificial intelligence. In the recent years, large tech enterprises and government organizations have started to invest in data ecosystem and numerous data-based start-ups have emerged. Although the interest in this field is soaring, many people still lack the understanding of data, data technology and its social and economic values. As a professional community with vision “To be a locally and internationally well-known professional community that contributes to the development of Mongolia’s DS & AI field.“, we believe it is our responsibility to support and promote the development of AI & DS field in Mongolia through our activities and members.
